Will The American College Have To Sell Its Campus to Survive? |

This is a sad time for the thousands of alumni of the American College who have generously supported this institution for many decades. The College is having serious financial difficulties. In order to improve the situation, the trustees are seriously considering selling most of the 35 acre campus including Huebner Hall, the Gregg Conference Center, Myrick Pavilion, and Mitchell Hall. |

It is not considered a very “classy” thing to give away a thoughtful gift received from someone who is important to you. It is even less appropriate to sell the gift. But that is exactly what The American College is about to do. Sell the campus, including the land, buildings, facilities and grounds in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania that have been donated by agents, general agents and insurance companies. |

My last column ended with a question that is important to all stakeholders of The American College: “When will we know what happened in Bryn Mawr and who will tell us?” This question is of interest to designees, degree recipients, contributors, current and past employees, and many others who have made commitments to the College, sometimes at the cost of substantial hardship. So far no answers have been forthcoming from the College, so it is hard to make suggestions for resolving the mess that apparently has resulted from a loan being called on which the College campus was assigned as collateral.
However a few things seem clear. . .
